So basically I am pining for some of these amazing boots I saw at BAF Week the other day. I dream of them, I imagine the beautiful memories we will create together as I stroll through Belgrano on a sunny autumn day and I caress the picture I put of them on my mirror every time I walk out the door. It's sad.
Anyway. BAF Week was pretty cool, if not at times a little funny. I have never been to Bryant Park in New York, or any other Fashion Week for that matter, but I couldn't help but think that Buenos Aires still has a long way to go when it comes to gaining credibility and achieving a little more success on the international circuit. Apparently this year things had been downsized - thanks financial meltdown - but it just seemed like a random hodgepodge of fashion students' efforts and pieces. There was only one space used for runway shows, which limited the amount of actual shows that could happen, which kind of stunk ( stank ?).
Every girl in attendance spent about 7 hours preparing for the event, strapping on her best, everpresent 5-inch stiletto ankle boots, pairing them with their favorite over-complicated blousey top ensemble and topping it all off with some random ass dangly necklace and over-straightened hair. EVERY girl there looked the same. It was kind of sad. Slash only mildly depressing because I looked like a homeless woman in my flip flops and greasy hair. Oh well. It was great people watching and fun to pretend that I could afford some of the cool stuff that was there.
We managed to watch the Prune runway show. Prune is a trendy but more or less quality leather line that puts out bags and accessories, aka this season = ankle boots and oversized bags. How original. Some of the shoes and boots were actually really great, but I was so distracted by how weirdly the models walked. I was channeling my inner Heidi Klum/Tim Gunn combo slash Miss Jay from America's Next Top Model, which is only slightly pathetic if you think about it. Most of the models were of course long, lean and gorgeous. They're only models after all. But they all had this insanely idiotic walk that made them lead SO much with their hips that they looked like someone was dragging them by their ankles or something. I don't know, and I don't even think it's worthy of a time-consuming analysis but it just seemed a bit ridiculous. In that moment I declared the First World, aka America, the champion of all things, especially Fashion Week.
Summer is winding down here and I am depressed that all of the sales are ending. However, my day is brightened up by the onslaught of sweaters, jackets, boots and scarves that are flowing through the streets of Buenos Aires like ... like ... I don't know. I love fall and I absolutely love the fall clothes in BA. I did a little browsing today to check out the new stuff but of course was depressed because I hate inflation and I hate the peso ( only temporarily ) but that is ok. This too shall pass. One day I will be wrapped up in a new little sweater and prancing around in my fabulous Huija boooooots.
Rowr. I miss Mere and I want to eat curry every day all day and cover my face in naan.
Night at the Roxbury is on and I am actually watching it. Someone help me.
In just a month I will be headed back home to get my visa paperwork in order which is so exciting. I can't wait to lay on the couch with Bella and bother Deb and eat Pietanza, shop at Trader Joe's, and proclaim the joys of customer service/efficient ANYTHING/non-mulleted hair.
Ummmmmmmm that's all for now I am SO boring it's actually unbearable.
