A little Sunday snapshot for you all ... I love this photo. I nabbed it from Jezebel and now don't have the link. Sorry about that. I'm still trying to finish up Shantaram (epic story based in India) so this picture is helping me along. I love the lighting and the colors of the woman's dress.

The Rug(s) of my Dreams

Today I finally spent some time in Mihran, one of my favorite design stores in Buenos Aires. Strolling along Arenales street, you're often faced with the exact. same. stuff. in every single store. Modern, minimalist, eco-cuero, red/black/white combinations, white faux leather upholstered furniture ...

It makes my heart hurt. Where is the originality? Where is the innovation? I don't want to feel like I'm living in some cheap knock-off Miami bachelor pad.

Stepping into Mihran was a nice treat. Owned by a Turkish man, the shop imports incredible rugs, kilims (both antique and new), Middle Eastern textiles and some furniture. I was basically rolling around on the rugs by the time I left. Here is a photo of the rug I want for the living room. Actually, it's not the exact same rug but it's a very similar design with lots of indigo. I am nuts for indigo. I want to bathe in it.

I found another, smaller, rug that would be perfect for our TV room (aka the Brown Boudoir.  Just thought of that but hey, pretty clever. Nahhht). It's really interesting visually and has some brighter colors in it but is rooted in brownish tones. If that were to be the only thing changed in the TV room, it would be enough!

Now hoping I can convince Josey of how lovely they are ... I think they speak for themselves.

In the land of Kings

Thank God for Anthropologie. Unfortunately I've just been scratching my eyes out as I've been drooling over their newest catalog shot in Rajasthan ... Not only does it make me want to be whisked off to India but it also has planted a serious seed of "I WANT" in my little brain!

Sometimes I wonder if I'm so eager to move back to America not for the proximity to family and friends, not for the reliability ... perhaps it's because I would then have total liberty to style our home in Anthro. I've managed to smuggle down quite a few items - Octopus plates, adorable planters (engagement gifts. Love them), an octopus pillow, a beautifully illustrated book with seashell & botanical prints ... But it's not the same. I'd like to go all-out please (Sorry, José).

The Meal of a Lifetime

There are no words to describe how anxious I am to see the No Reservations episode of Tony's meal at El Bulli. None. I pored over every image he and Chef José Andrés tweeted during their trip to Barcelona and the subsequent time they spent in Ferran Adriá's lair. It was incredible. Pure and unadulterated lust for food, for innovation and for life. Nothing makes me sadder than to know that I will never be able to enjoy a meal there, as it closes its doors as a restaurant for good as of July 30th this year.


After waking up feeling more sluggish than ever (I blame multiple cocktails and an insanely lengthy and scrumptious dinner at Sipan Palermo last night), I was able to overcome the decidedly gray and miserable day with Tony's blog post about his experience at El Bulli and the episode we can all expect to be the greatest ever.

for 91 days

I read about this incredible duo in the Argentina Independent - I always find fun little bits of information, interesting people, and intriguing analysis of what's going on in and around Argentina there - and thought I'd do a little blurb of my own about the project. It's called For 91 Days and this couple moves around from city to city, spending exactly 91 days in each (that works out to 4 cities a year). So far they've been in Berlin, Valencia, Savannah.... They're in Buenos Aires now and are heading north to somewhere in Bolivia for their next stop. It's a really cool interview and their blog (link!) is a fun way to take an internet break (or just procrastinate entirely). I love their current post about Belgrano "R" which is, hands-down, one of my most favoooorite neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. (photo taken from that post - there are so many more on the site! GO! NOW!)

Elle Decor goes to Barcelona

I'm up to my eyeballs in honeymoon planning (even though I secretly wanted José to have it all planned by the time I came home in March, I love poring over guidebooks and city maps and researching restaurants and hotels. It's fun! So I've taken the reigns while Josey is off diligently on a business trip) so imagine my relief/surprise when I saw that Elle Decor just did a little feature on Barcelona! Hooray!

We're going to Paris, Barcelona and Portugal (most likely Lisbon/Sintra & the Algarve) and I am beyond excited. We've already booked hotels for Paris and Barcelona, and we're going to finish things up with Portugal over the weekend. Yipeeeeee! But enough from moi ...
